From Software, the developers of beloved and notoriously difficult series Dark Souls and Bloodborne has teased an entirely new game simply entitled “New Project”.
Revealed at The Game Awards, it’s not yet known what this mysterious New Project is. Chances are it’s going to be a similar sort of affair to Dark Souls, Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne, but who knows. From Software did make the Armored Core games so perhaps we’ll somehow find out it’s a dark and bloody mech game set in an alternate medieval future.
It definitely isn’t that.
The teaser trailer, which lasts less than thirty seconds, features the sound of rain in the background while a bloody rope wrapped around some sort of contraption (at least, I think that’s what it is), inside a wooden frame twists tighter. It certainly doesn’t explain a lot, and then the words “Shadows Die Twice” appearing on the screen doesn’t do much to inform the curious mind.
The description on the YouTube video simply states “Here is a tiny glimpse into our new project” indicating that, perhaps this isn’t going to be a game we’ve seen from From Software before.
There is a chance that, with PlayStation Experience happening on the 8 December – or 4.30am GMT on 9 December in the UK – that we’ll see a bit more about what From Software is up to. Like Bloodborne and Demon’s Souls, this could be another exclusive for Sony.
It should be noted that, back in 2015, From Software trademarked the name “Soldiers’ Soul” but have yet to use it. With Dark Souls 3 arriving in 2016, it’s feasible that From Software have been hard at work on this Soldiers’ Soul IP since before Dark Souls 3 had wrapped, but who knows.
