Destiny 2 The Dawning – UPDATE 1:

The Dawning has officially been announced by Bungie.

The seasonal event will launch on Tuesday, December 19 and will run through Tuesday, January 9.

The Dawning will alter the appearance of The Farm and The Tower, and give players more activities to take part in.

Here’s everything that Bungie will be adding to the game when the update goes live at 5pm on Tuesday next week:

• Snowball Fights
Guardians aren’t just arming themselves with weapons. There are snowball piles everywhere you look. In the Tower and at the Farm, you can tag your friends for bragging rights. In Strikes, you can blast an enemy with a snowball to stun them and deal big damage. Stay frosty out there.

• Mayhem in the Cold
Keep your blood warm and your heart pumping in the Crucible. Mayhem is back, so your abilities recharge faster. Point values are cranked up enough to melt the ice. It’s anarchy—and it’s awesome.

Milestones of Winter
• Engage in Crucible Mayhem or become legend in Strikes and you’ll be rewarded. Every week, complete a milestone for a Dawning engram.

Get in the giving mood with new consumables that give rewards to everyone you’re playing with. If there’s a specific Dawning item that you have your heart set on, Tess will refresh her inventory each week, enabling you to use your Bright Dust reserves for your holiday shopping.

On one week or another during the three-week event, you’ll find every Dawning-themed exotic (ship, ghost, sparrow, emote) and every Dawning-themed legendary armor piece on her shelves.

• Gifting and Receiving
Pick up a Dawning Gift Schematic from the Bazaar.

Venture to other worlds and craft a unique gift for the vendors and agents you find in the Tower and beyond.

Then, give the lucky recipient their gift and receive a gift in return. You can participate in the season of giving every day of the event.

You can see all of these new activities and some incredibly pretty seasonal decorations that’ll appear in-game below.

ORIGINAL STORY:Destiny 2 fans will today learn more about the seasonal Christmas event due to drop in the game. The Dawning is a recurring Christmas event that allows players to access timed content themed around the festive season and winter.

Bungie community manager Deej has teased the event’s formal reveal with a cryptic message on Twitter.

One fan asked Deej if he knew the event was coming yesterday, and his reply was “I do, and tomorrow, so will you.”

We’re expecting Bungie to announce the event at roughly 5pm today – that’s usually when the company makes announcements in UK time.

We’re expecting Bungie to reveal where the event will take place (at the Tower, on the Farm – or both?) and detail what we can expect to drop in the time event.

You can see what we got in The Dawning in previous years below – how much will return in a brnad new game?

The only information we have on the event so far is that it’ll focus on ‘the founding of the Last City’ – so whether that means it might even add in new story content or not remains to be seen.New winter themed gear will also be added. And a snowball fight inspired gameplay mode will be added in some capacity, too.

Thanks to a dataminer operating on the PC version, rumours are circulating that we might even be able to return to the Sparrow Racing League, too!

All will be revealed later.

This all comes after the game’s new 1.1.0 update and Curse of Osiris DLC came last week and with it, there were plenty of changes to the games existing features and systems.

But many were unhappy with the state of the game post-DLC launch.

Bungie has this week addressed those issues in a new post to the community:

“With Curse of Osiris now live, it’s clear that we’ve made some mistakes with how we have handled content access. We would like to talk through the reasoning behind our decisions so far and what we are committed to changing moving forward,” reads a post.

As such, the developer is making a series of changes to the game. You can read about them in detail here.

Thanks to these changes, there will be no faction rally this week.

Bungie has not given a date for the event’s return.
