Oh FFS, Bungie’s Screwed Up with Destiny 2 Yet Again

Bungie’s shooter is back in the news cycle thanks to the game’s latest Faction Rally event, and no, it’s not because it’s been a huge success. The Faction Rally tasks players with pledging their allegiance to one of three factions. They then have to go out and gather tokens to support their chosen faction. It’s pretty straight forward stuff — or at least, it should be.

Of course, Destiny 2 being Destiny 2, something had to go wrong. Bungie’s been found out by the community yet again, as the developer has put a system in place that stops people from acquiring too many tokens. According to the studio, this was supposed to curb exploits, but the reality is that it’s choking the token gain of just about everyone who’s collecting them at a decent pace.

However, the real issue here is that this latest drama comes off the back of Bungie promising to be more transparent with its plans for Destiny 2. Not too long ago, the developer was called out for the game’s experience point scaling system, which stopped players from racking up loads of experience points if they played over long sessions.

Bungie now claims that its latest method of limiting Faction Rally tokens is “too disruptive”, and it’s looking to fix it. “We will be remedying this lapse in communication next week,” the studio promises.

Right now, it’s like Destiny 2 is trapped in quicksand. Whenever it tries to move, it sinks just that little bit quicker. Bungie can’t seem to get anything right, and the game’s really starting to pay for it. At this point, we think it’ll take something quite miraculous for the release to shake off the negativity that currently envelops it.
