Overwatch Blizzard World COUNTDOWN: Map release date, time for Xbox One, PS4 and PC

Later today, Blizzard will be releasing over 100 new items available to players, including new Epic and Legendary skins, player icons, emotes, sprays. But the biggest release from the developer will be the Blizzard World Map – the only part of the new update that will add something gameplay-wise to the title.
Blizzard first unveiled the new map at BlizzCon 2017 late last year, however after a number of months of testing on the games PTR (Public Test Realm) the developers are finally confident enough to roll out the finished map.

If you’re not a PTR player, then you may have forgotten, but the Blizzard World Map is a theme park with specific areas based around fellow Blizzard properties such as World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, Diablo, StarCraft and Heroes of the Storm.

In terms of core gameplay though, this is a map that supports both Assault and Escort game modes, a little like fellow hybrid maps Eichenwald and King’s Row.

“An amusement park celebrating the universes of Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo, Blizzard World is a brand-new hybrid Assault/Escort map,” Blizzard explains.

“Charge the gates of Stormwind, sneak through the Nexus Experience, and guide the payload through areas filled with high ground, flanking routes, and environmental hazards.

“Grab some Blizzard-inspired snacks at the concession stand along the way!”

You can take a closer look at the map below in the official trailer, or take a look at screenshots of the map in the gallery below.

The map release comes as part of a larger update that will ‘refresh’ the current loot available in Overwatch. These new pieces of content to download are not part of any special event or celebration but instead, they’re new items available in standard Loot boxes, which can also be purchased by spending money in the game’s Hero Gallery.”We’re expanding our core cosmetics collection to include over 100 new items – including skins, sprays, player icons, emotes, and more – for all 26 heroes,” reads a Blizzard blog post.

“And, starting January 23, you’ll be able to earn these cosmetics in standard Loot Boxes as well as unlock them via the Hero Gallery all year round.”

A large number of these new items, skins and such have already been unveiled (check out the gallery below to see them all) however, there’s still a few more yet to be announced.

Although Blizzard has said that all this new content and the new map are coming January 23, they’ve stopped short of confirming an official time for the new content to actually drop.

However, if you look back over past events and major updates for the game, we usually see Blizzard release them drop between 6pm and 7pm GMT in the UK which is 10AM PDT.

Though nothing is official until it’s released, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the new Skins, emotes, maps and everything else currently planned by Overwatch to arrive this evening.
